Absolutely fantastic 5k and Fun Run at the weekend. Massive thank you to Time2Run Events and all the marshals that helped us put on such a brilliant event! The typical winter weather not getting in the way of everyone have a great time!
Huge well done to all the RunSmart Leyland September 2019 Beginners who completed a 5k race for the first time. An achievement to be very proud of, however this is just the beginning of your running lives and there are plenty more miles and successes to come…
The “sold out” 1-mile Fun Run was won by Alex McKinlay of Blackburn Harriers in a time of 6 mins 38 seconds. With first Girl Georgina Andrews of Lytham St Andrews Road Runners finishing in 2nd overall with a time of 7 mins 05 seconds. This is such a great event with lots of families running together in some amazing outfits. It’s great to see young kids taking part, finishing with a smile and a medal proudly around their necks!
The 5k winner was local runner Joe Monk of Preston Harriers, a new course record of 15 Mins 57 Seconds. Closely followed by Matthew Fazakerley of Preston Harriers, (16:03) and Matthew Holmes of Red Rose Road Runners (17:32). The female race won by Finty Royle of Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club in a time of 19 mins 28 seconds. Followed by Sam Edwards of Red Rose Road Runners (21:35) and Emma Weall of Wigan Pheonix (22:06).
It is good to see many of the local running clubs supporting these events. Taking part were Red Road Rose Runners, Preston Harriers, Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club, Wigan Pheonix, Blackburn Harriers, Blackburn Road Runners, Accrington Road Runners as well as several other clubs all represented.
However, the main aim of this race is to encourage more and more local people to get into running. The experience of entering and running a race with lots of supportive people around them. It provides a great stepping-stone to have the confidence to enter other bigger races. With an entry list consisting of well over 2/3rd’s unattached runners we are encouraged to see this being achieved!
